1st Update!

Here is an update on how school ended this semester. I am going to break it down, so that the post doesnt get too long. In this post, I'm going to go through the non-design and online classes: Math, History, and Textiles.

Math: Math was difficult, but I passed the class. I learned that math online is a very bad idea.

History: This class ended pretty well, but by the end of the of the term, the test became last on the list. I was becoming slack, I was burnt out. But, I did enjoy doing a project about Philip Johnson, the architect. He is a very inspiring designer. I've learned alot and I passed!

Textiles: Textiles was good. The notebook turned out well, but it was a crazy weekend before it was due. But, overall, it was a good class.

The holidays are crazy enough to start with, but add projects and assignments, it 'bout near drives you crazy. I'll get the posts for Residential and Commercial up soon.

By The Way...

I think I found my new font...City Blue Print. This will only be used when I pre-type my posts!

Re-Cap!

Ive got some time to kill today, so I thought I would give yall an update on school stuff. Im trying some new fonts, to see which ones read well on the blog. So, let's get started!

Residential:All we have left to do is present and turn in the job book. The boards are done, and the project book is done! That was my sole focus during the break...so it wasn't much of a break. I'll post pictures of the boards in a week or so.

Commercial: The Godiva project has been done with for a month now. We have now moved onto the Randolph County EMS call center. We made it one big group project. I was in charge of the specs, and this now is done! We will present next Thursday on the 9th.

Textiles: The fabric notebook is done! It was a semester long project, but you know how procrastination is a prominent characteristic in college. But, it is done, and in the drop-off box! Only 1 more test in that class. YAY! O, and we are going to Showtime next Wednesday! That should be fun!!

History: Boy, we have had our struggles with this class this semester, but it is almost over! I am working on a presentation on an architect. My architect is Philip Johnson. He was a pretty cool guy, with awesome glasses! He was a true visionary! Go check him out!!!!! We also have 1 more test in that class!! Yay!!!!!

Math: 1 more test and a final, then that pain will disappear!!! Wish me luck on those, cause I have had my issues with that class too.

So, that is my school life for the semester! But, with Christmas coming, I will have a whole month of "Emily Time", and I and so excited to sleep, read books, and watch TV and movies!! I have to Thank Abby C. for the knowledge about Celtic Thunder. They are an amazing Irish group of men!!!!! Any accent is amazing, especially an Irish one! Just thought I would share with you who I have been obssessed with for the past few weeks! Anyway, sorry this was so long, but I had alot to catch-up on!! Have a great weekend!!!!!

Celtic Thunder - Lauren and I

I must say a quick "Thanks" to Abby C. This song is amazing, and so is his voice! His accent is quite nice as well. Just thought I would share this magic with you! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Updates on the outcome of school and recent events will come shortly.

Letters to Juliet

I adore this movie! I have watched in twice within the past 2 nights. And, may I say, Amanda Seyfried is an amazing actress! I personally love when Charlie climbs up to the balcony in the end, and of course when Lorenzo comes into the picture! Such a cute movie! Sorry, Youve Got Mail, but Letters to Juliet has now become my go-to movie!

Oh Father OUTRO - Paramore 7/7/09 - Islington Academy

This is one of the many awesome reasons that I adore Paramore. They play a song, that is simply amazing, and then they play an even more amazing “outro”. Here are the lyrics to that “outro”:
Oh Father
Oh Father
Oh Jesus
Father, well I am ready,
Won’t you let it begin?
Cos I am here now,
I want to dance in
The mighty palm of your hand
This song is a testament to their faith. I am a Christian, and I support them in what they are doing.  I love the fact that Hayley is practically worshiping on stage. And I also love that in another video, they show a video of the nail scarred hands, or what I assume are the nail scarred hands. That part gave me chills. So, thanks Paramore. Are you not only an AMAZING band, but you serve an AMAZING God. I will always and forever be a fan!

Mid-Term UPDATE!!!!!!!!!

So, hey guys! It’s me again. I know I haven’t posted in quite a while, but I am back with updates on school. So, here we go *said in the voice of Chip from Beauty & the Beast*. Please don’t ask me why it was in the voice of Chip, but whenever that phrase pops in my head, it is either in the voice stylings of Chip or Peter Pan. Hooray for Disney movies! Anywho…

Res II: Moss/Councilman project is going great, but slow. I think this is our only project for the semester. We are doing most of the project in sketch-up. It’s a great 3D program, download for free on Google! So, that project is teaching us budget, live client, and it’s more sketch-up practice.

Comm II: We are still working on Godiva, but it is due in a few weeks. So, we are now in crunch time. When this is done, we will be working on the EMS Call Center in Asheboro, NC. So, I’m gonna be busy with that class for a while.

History of Interiors II: Things are looking up! We had a rough patch in the beginning of the semester, but things are on the up & up! Ann, if you are by chance reading this, I want you to know, that mom and I were watching TV the other morning, and I recognized a Greek Revival home. That homework is paying off!
Textiles: Things are good, but they’re busy. I’m slowly learning about weaves and types. There is just so much!

Math: Math is math; somewhat easy at times, others, not so much.

Life in the outside:  Things are as boring as ever. The one awesome thing is that I have found my internship. This actually happened over the short summer break, but I didn’t want to tell until it was for sure. I am going to be working with Angie Kearns of AEK Interiors. And I am so excited! But, I think my mom is more excited than I am. So, that will happen in the spring! Last night, my friend Shelby Guy sang a solo in the fall concert at HPCA.I am so proud of you Shelbs!!!!!  Last weekend, my dad’s side of the family had our reunion (joy), and the next day, we went to the fair (JOY) with my: Uncle Howard, Aunt Mel, Jeff, Tara, Evelyn, & Sophia. That was a long day, but it was fun. I now have a deep love for deep fried Oreos! I did some advising for Jeff & Tara on drapes and paint a few weeks ago. They got the drapes, and picked a paint! YAY FOR FIRST CLIENTS!!!!!!!! Those are the exciting moments that have happened so far this semester.
So yea, that is about it! I will hopefully be back with some stuff later on.

The Start...

Well folks, I have been back in class for 2 weeks now. I now that I have a good idea of what we are doing, I want to share it with you!
Residential II: The first day of class, we have a color consultation for a couple in Asheboro. We gave them our choices that Thursday. We then have received our first big project. We are doing a renovation for a couple that is getting married. They are renovating his family home, and she is bringing some of her pieces into the mix. So, we have a big project ahead of us! That is all for Residential so far.
Commercial II: Our first major project is a competition for GODIVA! Yes, that’s right, I said GODIVA!!!!!!!!! And it’s a competition, so there may be prizes if we win. By we, I mean Misty, Alex and me are in a group together. And so far, things have been great! So, wish us luck!
Those are the main classes. My online classes are History of Interiors II, Textiles, and Math 140. So, we will see how everything goes! Wish us all luck!

I HATE Goodbye...

So, as of this coming Friday, 2 of my close friends will be gone off to school. The last leaves next Tuesday. It hadn't really hit me until tonight. MacKenzie left last Sunday, and Josh is leaving Friday, Rebekah leaves Tuesday. I wish there was a great song to insert here...but sadly, there aren't any I can think of. Shelby is in her Senior year of high school, so I still have her, but I'm now depressed.

Tonight Josh, Bekah, Shelby, and I got together to say goodbyes. We made our usual cupcakes, and watched a movie. When the goodbyes came, I will say that it was hard not to burst into tears. But on the way home, it hit me. I felt like sharing this with ya'll, it is a relief to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening!

Around the Corner...

Well folks, I start back to school on Tuesday. I have really enjoyed my break, I don't want it to end. :(
While on my break, I had some realizations...

1.  This school year, I'm focusing on me! Getting to my "Happy Place" in my life. And, I'm very excited about it!
 2. I created my "Buried Life List". Have you seen the show on MTV called "The Buried Life"? Well, it is a show about 4 guys tackling the things on their list to do before they die. Along the way, they help someone accomplish something on their own list. Like, help someone find their mom who gave them up for adoption, etc... So I created my list. It is still in the works, but when I feel good that I have not skipped anything, I will post it.
3. I love my friends! I know I should anyway, but seriously! They have gotten me through things, and calmed me down. Thanks for listening guys!!!!! I love ya'll!
4. I have realized my love of vintage and antique items! For instance, I have a ring that I got when my Great Aunt Vera passed away. It has a large yellow stone, and a solid gold band. It is unique, and I'm proud to wear it! It has sparked an interest in vintage furniture and antique pieces!
5. I have developed an even greater passion for travel. During the past 2 weeks, I would've loved to get out of town for even the weekend! Just to spice things up!
6. I have a great relationship with sleep! We weren't the best of friends during school, but we have rekindled our relationship over that past 2 weeks!

I think that is it for now! I'm excited about school, because I graduate in May (!), and the routine is nice; but yet, I enjoy my time alone (not in the car on the way to and from school), with peace and quiet. NO stress! Well, we gotta move on with life! We only get 1, so make it count!! Have a great week, and to those who are starting school as well...Good Luck!!!!

BREAK!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M FINALLY ON BREAK!!!!! Well, now break is half over, sadly...But any-who, I have been enjoying my time off!  I have watched movies, caught up on much needed sleep, and hung out with my friends!
The first friend outing was with my best friend MacKenzie! We went out for my birthday, we were a little late, but she was out of town on my birthday, but we made up for it with our traditional dinner and movie! We ate at her family's restaurant, Crossroads Family Restaurant, had a great time catching up. The we proceeded to the movies, where we watched the latest Twilight Saga installment, Eclipse. And, may I say, that this movie, I think was the better of the three.
The latest outing was today! My other best and I went out to the Bog & Tanger Family Gardens in Greensboro. It was hot and humid, but we had a great time talking, and hanging out! We went to lunch, and went to a cafe for some desert, and did a little window shopping at Friendly Center!

It is wonderful hanging out with friends you haven't seen for weeks! But, I will say, now that I am on break, I don't know what to do with myself!!!!! But, I guess it is a good thing sometimes, to not have anything to do!!

Residential

Hey folks! Let me fill you in on how my residential project went! Over the past 10 weeks, I have been working on a mid-century modern/Danish modern design for my teacher's home. It was frustrating and exciting at the same time! We had our presentation yesterday...and it went great! Usually, my presentations have not gone so well, but I really prepared myself for this one! And it went swimmingly!!!!!! I got my grade back today, and guess what...I GOT AN A!!!!!!!!! I was so excited! I also got a perfect score on my presentation! I think I was more excited about the presentation than anything! And now, I will share some photos of the project with you! Here you go...

1 WEEK! AH!!!!!!!!!

Folks, this is my last week of summer school! Can I say how excited, yet nervous I am about this week?! Residential presentation on Tuesday at 9:00 am, Commercial presentation Thursday at 2:00 pm, in front of 9 people!!!!!!!!! STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be glad to get this week over with! And then...I will have 2 SOLID weeks of being with people I love (aka : MacKenzie , Shelby, Rebekah, Josh, and my Family!!!!!!) I will give you a heads-up of how the presentations go, and put my boards up later!

Monday, July 19, 2010

AH!!!!!

Well folks, we officially have 2 weeks of class left!!!!! Can anyone say, "STRESS" ? But really, I'm not that worried. About right now, I'm worried about presentations!!! But still, let me fill you in on the past few weeks. Here we go!
Residential : I have been getting alot done! My book is finished, and my price sheets are almost there! My drawings are done...but I still need to letter my floor plan. That will happen tomorrow, I'm sure! Pics will be up in a few weeks!!! I hope ya'll will like it!
Commercial : We have gotten alot done in there as well. We have overcome things, and grown, I think as a group, which is good! We are coming up to the finish line in this class as well, and we still have quite a bit of work to do!! But, don't worry, it'll get done! We are presenting in front of 9 people...one of which is the President himself...no pressure!
Life outside of school : Since the birthday, not much has happened...my best friend has come back from her 18 days in New York! And, may I say how much I missed her!!!!! I have been with family alot lately! For the fourth, my aunt, uncle, and grandmother came over for dinner, then we went and watched the fireworks that were exploding all around us! And the next night, we went over to their house for dinner. Where my aunt leant me the book, The Hunger Games...it's a pretty good read! And then this past weekend, we had a family thing for some extended-ish relatives...that was definitely an interesting evening. And this past Sunday, Shelby, Bekah, myself, and a guy named Chris, went to watch my friend Josh play Enjolras in Les Miserables...and may I say, he was stupendous!!!!! His portrayal of a drunk- hi-larious!!!!! So proud of him!
Here is a snapshot of him (in the front), during one of his performances.

Ya'll, may I say, that it was difficult to come up with life outside of school...I've been focused- but I needed the interaction with family and friends! They keep me sane! I love you guys!!! Well folks, I think that is it for tonight! I have some more exciting things going on this week, such as : dentist tomorrow(!), and, finally a haircut on Friday!!! I'm thinkin drastically different (I say that now, but who knows?!), so I might have to do a before and after on that one! Well, good night all, have a blessedly AWESOME week!

Monday, July 5, 2010

Only a few weeks left!!!!!!!

Hey ya'll!!!!!! Hope your 4th was great, and full of fun and family! We have spent 2 consecutive nights with my aunt, uncle, and grandma. It has been a blast! We went to the church across the street for their fireworks, and then came back to my grandma's to watch the Oak Hollow fireworks. Then back to our house for desert and finishing a movie. And I did absolutly nothing today!!!It was fantastic!!!

We have about 3 more weeks of class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I tell you how excited I am!!!!!!! This semester has been INSANE!!!!!!!!!! I am so ready for a break.

May I vent a bit? Well, we don't get a break for 10 straight weeks! The school got the 5th off, which is a Monday, but sad part is, I already have Modays off! So, design students don't get a break, and trust me when I say...WE NEED A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!! We are going crazy in that building all day, 3 days a week!!!!! And thing is, we get just 2 weeks before fall semester...WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! There is the problem!

Anywho, thanks for listening to me rant and rave about scheduling issues! I was reminded this evening, by a Christian music artist, Jenny Simmons, that He holds us when we are kicking and screaming. She tells the story of a boy having a tantrum in a resturant, and his father holding him, and lovin on him. She tells this story at a camp, and many teens are affected by this story. These teens are struggling with major issues in their lives, and this simple story saved many of them. God is awesome!! He keeps us together, and keeps us strong to get through what we need to. And to hear about these kids' struggles, me crying over the schedule or something super trivial, seem pointless. But keep in mind, the He will keep you together in any situation, trivial or not! You are His child, and He will do what He needs to to keep us safe and content. Check out Jenny's Blog...jennysimmons.com

Thanks ya'll! And have a great week!

Birthday at Bekah's

So, my friends invited me over to watch a scary movie (we'll get to that, in a minute!) It's my birthday, and I have nothing else to do for a while. I go, I get hugs, a cake, and one of those velvet pictures of a tiger that my friend Josh and his nieces colored for me. We watched the movie Quarantine...O MY GOSH! It was crazy scary! I hid behind my hands almost the entire time. But to say the least, I had fun blowing out my candles, and having my friends and two new ones sing happy birthday to me! And, my friends can sing...it was a wonderful birthday! Thanks!!!!!

p.s.- here are some pictures my friend Bekah took:

Me, Shelby, and our grumpy friend Josh.

4 Days!

My 19th birthday is in 4 days!!!!!!!!! I don't have school that day, so I am planning on relaxing and hanging out with my friends. And as a treat, I will give ya'll a glimpse of what I looked like when I was younger. Are you ready?
I was maybe 3, or somewhere close to that when this was taken. We were at the coast with my grandparents, and I was wearing my Bible Heroes shirt and my pink shorts! I was peeking out from behind my brother, who is standing in front of me. He was maybe 6 or 7 when this was taken.

HALFWAY THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have 5 more weeks left of summer semester!!!!!!!!! O MY GOODNESS, I am freaking out! But I still feel like I am on track with where I am supposed to be. In residential, we started coloring today, and that has to be done, as well as inked, by Tuesday... I have quite a bit to do! In commercial, we are slowly getting things done. We did accomplish quite a bit today! And we are learning Sketch-up, and it is really cool; so I'm excited about that!
Out-of-school life is going pretty great as well. I have had some super fun times with my best friend MacKenzie, and my other friends Josh and Shelby! We are even planning something for this weekend, so I am excited about that too!
I'll keep you up to date on happenings towards the end of the semester! And, I am excited to show ya'll a picture of my girls at school!

Updates: School, Evey & Soph, Everything Else!

Well ya'll, we are about 3-4 weeks into the semester. I'm gonna give you an update on how life is goin!

On Memorial Day, the fam and I went over to my cousin's house for dinner. We got to hang out with them and their two precious girls, Evelyn and Sophia, or more lovingly referred to as Evey and Soph. When you see their picture, keep in mind that, yes, they are twins!
Sophie is on the left, and Evey is on the right. I love my girls!

Now, on to school...I thought that this semester would be difficult. And i was right. The first day, we were hit with projects, which I've discussed previously. Residential is going great! Holly likes what I've picked for her home, and I'm excited to start drawing and rendering everything! Commercial is a challenge! We have, since the last post, been split into groups...I don't know how well this will go. But recently, we have been going and looking at sites. On Thursday, we visited the Carolina Theater. On Wednesday, we visited HPU. And may I say that it is the most amazing school! Now, we just gotta get me there! So there are the projects...I'll keep you posted on how everything is going.

On Wednesday, we also got an opportunity to visit a design company in HP. We went to Barbour Spangle. It is a group of women who do design in High Point, and throughout the country. We learned alot, and all had a great time!

I also have discovered, since the trip to the beach, that Paramore and the Glee soundtracks, solve any problem. Lack of sleep...rock out to sleep with Paramore. And yes, this is one of my favorite bands!

Glee is good for anything else! And, let's just say, that I am depressed now that the season is over. The fall can't get here fast enough! And this is for many reasons...

Week 1...Here We Go!!!

This semester, I am taking Residential I, Commercial I, and History of Furnishings. Res I and Comm I are in the classroom from 8-5,on Tuesday-Thursday; History is online. We are in class for 10 weeks. We get done in the end of July.

For our residential project, we are designing and space-planning our teacher, Holly's, house in Mid-Century Modern/Danish Modern. It is going really well at the moment, I am almost caught up for the week's checklist. I am enjoying finding the pieces to put into the space. And getting to talk to Holly about what she and her
husband , Mark, are looking for in their space.

For our commercial project, we are redesigning the Auditorium and Gallery are in the Library/ Resource Center at RCC. We have been broken into 2 groups. I am in a group with Amarinh, Alex, and Kerri Beth. We are all going to show off our different skills, and create a design that the school will want to make a reality. It is our first project where we have a budget, so that will be interesting! We have only been doing research and brainstorming this week. I'll let you know how it is going!

Week 1 is over, and it is a little hard focusing on schoolwork when the weather is nice, and friends are home from school. The thing that spurs me on, is that I am graduating in the spring, and that I am enjoying what I am doing. I did come home today and crash on the bed, but we can work on the "at home" schedule when things start to pick up. I'll hopefully post once a week, but it depends. Have a great weekend!!!

Back to the Grindstone!

This was my view for the past week. I went to Myrtle Beach with my family for vacation. It was relaxing and i got a splendid tan! As I said in my last post, we weren't sure what the weather would be like. And to our surprise... there was only 1 day that was dreary all day. On one of the other days, it showered a little. but overall, it was amazing weather!

But may I be frank, I missed my routine! I missed having things to do. The past few weeks have been so busy, I had forgotten how to do nothing! Last week was my first week of break, and I did nothing, and may I say it was fantastic. But still, I like having things to do, to keep me busy. That is why I'm excited about school on Tuesday, even though it is the summer and school is from 8-5...still, it keeps me busy. It also helps that I like what I am doing with my life right now.

Anyway, I think that is enough for now. There is more to come next week. I'll let you know how school is going!

Graphic Presentation Living Room

In Graphic Presentation this semester, we worked on a living space that we designed for ourselves. It was our first take at color rendering. We did a good job, for first timers! We also learned about board presentation and things of that  nature, like having a name card, and legends. I picked the Chocolate colored fabric to offset the walls, and the turquoise fabric to compliment the brown.

Freedom!

We are on break at the moment! This means 2 weeks of freedom! This week I cleaned the house for my mom's Mother's Day present, because she wanted it cleaned before...WE GO TO THE BEACH!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's right! We are leaving on Saturday and staying for a week! The Weather Channel says that it will be rainy and cloudy most of the week, but we are hoping they are wrong. I can't wait to get a fantastic tan!!!!!  Anyway, I am excited about getting out of town, and completely relaxing week after the last 2 weeks that I've had! I'll let you know how the weather was when I get back! Have a great week!!!!!

Whole Foods

We did a commercial re-design for Whole Foods Market. They wanted Eco-friendly and green to go with their logo.
In the lobby, we placed cork tiles on the floor, and white ceramic tiles on the focal wall behind the logo. The green fabric is what is on the sofa and chairs. There are also coffee tables in the lobby for magazines and handouts from local growers.
In the boardroom, we have the light wood on the floor, and the dark wood for the tables. There is seating for 40 in the boardroom. The white fabric is a drapery sample for the window wall, and the green and brown vinyl are for the chairs around the tables.

1 MORE WEEK!!!!!

I now have 1 more week left of this semester! Thank goodness!!!!! This has been a stressful week, and I'm glad it's over. My schedule for the upcoming week is hectic, but let's say on Friday, new posts of final projects will be put up on here.

A tragedy happened later in the week. Some boys that I went to high school with were in an accident and killed. Pray for their families as they go through this trying time.

I'll check back with you guys soon!

Back to Work...

Break is over, and now the fun begins...finishing projects, coloring ( which i am so worried about!!!!!), decorating a cube, and the infamous presentations to go along with these projects. But, I'm glad to get back to work. I have enjoyed catching up on sleep and schoolwork, but i was losing track of the days. And now that school is back in session, I am counting down the days till my family and I are going to the beach in May.

As Tim Gunn would say, "Make it WORK!"

We are almost halfway done with the semester, and we can feel the pressure. We are finishing most of our projects and presentations this coming week. But then we know they will start again after that.
My class and I are a tight knit group, and we know when things aren't going right. With one look, we can know if the other is peeved about something. But through it all, I personally keep the motto of "Make it WORK!" I got this thought the other week, and said it out loud to some of my friends. It came from the many nights of watching Project Runway, and their fearless Tim Gunn. It inspired me in that no matter what is going wrong, or what is having to be tweaked at the last minute, you can always make it work; you can always make something out of nothing.
This can either be good or bad, but something still holds true:

DO EVERYTHING TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES! Make the  most out of every situation, and make it the best that it can be!

So, with that being said, have a great weekend, and always..."Make it WORK!"
